2008 Spartan Football Predictions: Ohio State
SpartyMSU’s Brew Crew assembled (Gav, Opie, Alfie, Dave , Andy, and Dennis showed up (finally)) to Review and Predict the 2008 Spartan Football Season..
On the discussion board is: Game 8… Ohio State ... Oct 18, 2008, in East Lansing
We have looked at the 2008 enemies, predicted the games 1 – 7…. It’s now time to look at the hardest part of the Spartan Season.. Starting on Oct. 18 with Ohio State, it gets tougher… we may be sounding like Sparty Homers.. But, it’s possible and highly probable the Spartans are now 7 – 0 up to this point in the season… They can match up with any of the teams we have reviewed to date (at least until the Oct. 18th Game)…. Opening up with Cal in Berkley sets the stage.. The Spartans are a 7 point Dog (Which Sparty can more than cover) playing a game on the Left Coast…. Florida Atlantic is no slouch, then there is Indiana, Iowa, And NW Wildcats are all respectable solid Big Ten teams.... but, its a good chance we’re undefeated until Tressel ‘s Bucknuts comes to town….
The Games Still to Review:
Oct. 18 – Ohio State in East Lansing
Oct. 25 - scUM in Ann Arbor
Nov. 1 - Wisc. In East Lansing
Nov. 8 - Purdue in East Lansing (Tillers last game against the Spartans)
Nov. 22 - Penn State at Beaver Stadium (Possibly Joe Pa’s last Home game as a coach…)
2007 - Spartan played a low scoring contest against the Buckeyes last year in the Horse Shoe… Loosing 24 – 17. With no Offensive Touchdowns for the Spartans.. All MSU scores came off errors by OSU (Int. and a Fumble).. So the Spartans can bring the pressures.. But the OSU “D” held us down to Zot, Zip, Zero offensive scoring… We did manage a Field Goal from the Wonder Kid Brett Swenson (DNBTU: Dead Nuts between the Up Rights) ….. But, fact remains Spartans only lost by a touchdown to the #1 Team in the Big Ten, and #2 in the Country last year. And this year Both Teams are retuning Big Groups of Starters.
But, Looking at OSU.. Damn… What a team.. If this year, they can’t get the Sweater Vest another championship .. Will they ever ??.... This is a great team.. Lost again in the Championship Game…. 2 years in a row… But they have a good Shot at the BCS Championship again this year.
On a side note: Is this new recruit Terrelle Pryor going to be a Head Case or an Asset.. ? How will he work with Boeckman??? He made a smart move not choosing Ann Arbor.. But, how’s he going to fit ?? From all of the Hype.. If the young man has his head on right, he’ll be a star in Columbus and on the NFL…
OSU: They bring back Everyone on “D” except for 1, (that muscle freak of nature: Gholston) This group was ranked #1 in the nation last year, they allowed only 233 yards and 12.7 points per game.... The LBs are anchored by 2 time All American Jimmy Laurinaitis and All Big ten Marcus Freeman.. All 6 DBs return, the “D” Line, its going to be strong, only having to replace DE Gholston, but he is back filled with talent in Red Shirt Lawrence Wilson.
Offensively.. Like the Defense… They have almost everybody back.. … QB Todd Boeckman isn’t the best QB in the Big Ten (in 2007 2,379 yrds, 25 TDs, 14 ints) but he sure has the weapons at his disposal.. Chris Wells… a great running back.. will challenge Javon Ringer for best Back Spot in the Big Ten… To Catch Boeckman’s throws: 6 ‘– 3” Brian Robinski, 6’2” Brian Hartline, 6’5” Rory Nicol, 6’6” Jake Ballard… This will be a test for Otis and Crew…
The “O” line of any team will make or break skill players.. and these retuning starters’ will support the OSU scoring machine all year…
Not Sure what else to say about the Bucknuts, Flat out a good team.. I expect the Spartans to give them a great game in Spartan Stadium… But, don’t think the Spartans are ready to beat a team of this caliber yet… Hurts to say it.. This might be an “L”, but this is the first team they play that might be clearly better than them… SpartyMSU will hopefully be rooting OSU on January 9th , in Miami for the FedEx Championship Game…
Spartan Suggestion: We Really want the guys to be Healthy headed into the Final 4 Games of the Season, Possibly rest some of the Team for a final push… Javon, Hoyer, Otis Wiley, Kendall Davis-Clark, BJ Cunningham, Mark Dell, Deon Curry for the Buckeye Game…Just a suggestion…
Spartans 17 – Buckeyes 35
Sparty On !!!!
