2008 Spartan Football Predictions: Florida Atlantic

SpartyMSU’s  Brew Crew assembled (Gav, Opie, Alfie, Dave and Andy) to Review and Predict the 2008 Spartan Football Season..

We already polished off a cash of Oberon, bottle of Crown.. .Andy lost the coin flip and had to run out for more beer.....  He gets arrived back with another case of Oberon, Bless Him !!   And Dennis dropped in with another bottle of Crown Royal.. Lets get this party STARTED..!!!  This is just like the tail gates only we're no tin E.L.
On the discussion board is: Game Three.. Florida Atlantic University.

Game 3… Florida Atlantic University… Sept 13, 2008 at Noon, in East Lansing.....

Florida Atlantic won their Conference last year and went on to Win the New Orleans Bowl against Memphis. Everyone has them pegged to repeat as Conference champs in 2008….

Do like their Cheerleaders…

One game FAU touts as a Huge win in 2007.. A win against the Big Ten…  was the defeat of the Minnesota Golden Gophers last year, 42 – 39… but.. Come on.. it was Minnesota.. the Laughing stock of the Big Ten.. Sister Mary’s School for the Blind could have beaten Minnesota last year… What would have been a cool matchup last year would have been Minnesota against Fat Chucky Weis’s Hapless Notre Dame Golden Domers.. Who would have won that Losers Bowl… ????

Well FAU……  The Spartans Ain’t Minnesota…  And Spartan Stadium ain’t the Humpty Dumpty Dome.. So, don’t count on another BIG Ten win unless you play the Gophers again..  Ohhh wait.. you do.. the following week FAU travels back up north to beat Minnesota again..  And the week before the Spartan Game FAU travels to play Texas…

This game will be more of a challenge for the Spartans then the EMU game, and not as tough as the Cal game in Berkley….

Lets take a look at the FAU team…  Note: FAU was the only team from Florida last year to Win their Bowl game…

Last years Sun Belt Conference MVP was the FAU QB: Rusty Smith.. passed for 3, 688 yrds, 32 touchdowns..  Guess they do it through the air.. not too many rushing yrds.. Charlie Piere ran for 782… Both are back for this year..  Rusty is a skilled passer, and does have a trio of targets.. Gent, Boner, and Johnson…  (Johnson and Boner.. I am thinking of a Bevis and Butt Head joke right about now…)… The “O” line is stacked with returners.. but they didn’t protect Rusty too much last year.. no reason to think they will do any better this year…

8 returning starters on “D”, DT Savage is back from a Knee injury, LB Frantz Joseph (61-1”, 229) seems to be the leader.. They are forecast to be strong in their conference, but don’t think that translates in to Strong in the Big Ten, unless you play Minnesota.

Since they don’t seem to mix it up too much with the running game and focus on the air attack, I see the Spartans with solid pass pressure and in the Owls back field most of the day, with Otis Wiley, Jenrette keeping the pressure on the receivers.  If they do try to run… If.. if.. then Jones, Gardiner and crew will shut that down.

I wish them luck in the Sun Belt Conference… They sure chose a tough opening schedule…

Spartan  Win this one… Hoyer and the Spartan “O” have another big day…

Spartans 52 – FAU 17

Sparty ON !!!

Hello! Just wanted to say a couple of things here:

    1) The girl in the picture is from the Dance Team, not the Cheerleaders.

    2) You're right that FAU's game is mostly in the air. We run QBs and backs just enough to show you we can and divert your attention from covering the passing game.

    3) Our coaches split up carrying duties among the RB corps instead of leaning all on one guy (ala UCF with Kevin Smith). Charles Pierre is good, his backup DiIvory Edgecomb is better. But yes, they'd have some problems breaking the tackles. Our starting FB Willie Rose is multi-talented. Also, we just recruited a 3-star, 225-lb back named Xavier Stinson who may figure into the mix as well.

    4) It's Bonner, not Boner. We have a backup, Lestar Jean, who may be more talented than Bonner and certainly more talented than Johnson. Gent and Jean will be our main threats.

    5) Huh? The O line protected Rusty very well. They had to in order for time to throw for 32 TDs, 3000+ yards, etc. We weren't very good at getting at opposing QBs... something they fixed in the offseason.

    6) 52-17... come on. There's no way. We're better than you realize. We'll show you this Fall.

Other than that, good luck with your season!

    GO OWLS!!!
